Shout out to the de Young Museum and the Legion of Honor for sharing some behind the scenes insight on their new looks!
I was happy to find in my inbox today a link to learn more about the ideas behind the rebranding of the de Young Museum and the Legion of Honor.
I love it when museums, and other institutions, are open and honest about what is going on behind the scenes. I think it is important that organizations offer an explanation on rebranding since it touches at the heart of what an organization stands for.
One of my favorite takeaways from the article:
For an institution to deliver on its promise to serve the public with maximum impact, it is critical that its identity is clear and distinct. A strong brand allows us to rise above the surrounding noise, communicate clearly the values of the institution and the diversity of our offerings, and powerfully articulate our purpose.
YES AND YES! A museum’s purpose is to serve the public and the best way to do that, to make sure the whole team is on the same page, is to have a clear identity! It sounds so simple, but in practice it is difficult.
